Buttons & Bows - For Foster, Adoption, and Kinship Families in Denton and Collin Counties

Buttons and Bows is a ministry outreach program by Button United Methodist Church for families caring for children experiencing foster care, adoption, or kinship care. We stock a foster closet at our church for children settling into a new family dynamic, whether temporarily or permanently.

For example, imagine you're a licensed foster family and receive a call at 3am to help care for a 5-year-old child coming from the Texas foster care system ... but you do not have clothes, toys, or other essential items appropriate for that child's age. She'll arrive at your home in the next hour. You don't have time to run to Target and have no idea if she's in age-appropriate clothing or needs smaller or larger sizes. Oftentimes children in foster care arrive with one small bag because removal can be fast and there's no time to pack a bag ... so you really need to wait and see what will be best for this child because you've been trained to meet her wherever she is at right now. First things first, you need to make sure you have a clean bed, food, and a calm mind to accept this child coming from the traumatic experience of being separated from her biological family. But after you get her settled, you are going to be laser-focused on making the child feel safe and at home. How will you find time and/or resources to get the supplies you need for this child?

Hold our Bible.

Button has a solution!

Buttons and Bows foster closet is open to any foster/adopt/kinship family in the Denton and Collin county area, as well as our church members and regular attendees. Our church family and community have stepped up and helped stock our Buttons & Bows foster closet not only with new or gently used clothing items but also necessities like diapers and age-appropriate games and toys.

We got you, families! God calls ALL people to care for vulnerable children and others who may not have a voice or ability to care for their needs. Button strives to be the church who helps equip those God has called to care for His children.

How does the Buttons & Bows Foster Closet work?

The first Saturday of each month, Buttons and Bows is open for children and families to shop from 9am to noon.

Buttons & Bows Foster Closet Service Opportunities and Inventory Needs

Contributions from the community and area businesses:

Button Church accepts financial and tangible donations from the community to stock the closet. An ongoing need is always diapers (all sizes) and wipes. We also accept new and gently used clothing, toys, and games. Please only bring items that are in excellent condition. We want children to feel loved and comfortable, so only like-new items will be able to be provided.

Button Church Members and Youth:

Buttons and Bows takes a lot of work, so we need your help preparing donated items and working the closet for children and families who come to shop and pick up items the first Saturday of each month. You can also help us source items by spreading the word at school, church, and other organizations who may be able to help us stock our closet inventory needs.

If it takes a village to raise on child, then we need all hands on deck to serve many children in our community of Little Elm and the surrounding communities of Frisco, The Colony, Oak Point, Lewisville, Aubrey, Denton, Prosper, McKinney, and beyond. Where can you serve and help? Everyone can do something.
