For some, Christmas can be a time of loneliness and sadness. It can feel like the only thing that matters are purchasing gifts and hustle and bustle. Not everyone has a loving family or even a meal to look forward to. Maybe you're remembering the loss of a loved one or you recently lost a job. So how can there be joy in and at Christmas?
Joy is found in Jesus Christ. Christmas is His birthday. He was born to Mary to be the savior of our world. Regardless of the fast pace from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the holidays can be a great time to slow down, reflect on blessings, and to anticipate opportunities for the coming year. It can also be a time to consider finding a community to be a part of. We weren't meant to do life alone. Maybe Button is the home you're looking for?
The beginning of Christmas season at Button started with food, fellowship, and fun. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy cookies and pictures with Santa. Our first event was followed by an amazing concert of Christmas tunes by our awesome church band.
The town of Little Elm always puts on an amazing Christmas parade for the community, and Button UMC had a lot of fun experiencing it firsthand with some of our members. While it was a chilly experience, it was wonderful to see so many families brave the weather to join the festivities.
Throughout December, Pastor Melissa shared about The Gift of Being Present , in addition to the lighting each advent candle in the weeks leading up to Jesus's birthday. The church also participated in an Advent Mission Project to help stock Button's "Feed My Sheep" pantry. Pastor Melissa shared the good news that more than 3,000 people were served by this ministry in 2023. Praise God for the volunteers who serve countless hours and those who donate food so the pantry can help those in our community.
With Christmas Eve falling on Sunday this year, we enjoyed a Sunday morning service and candlelight service and communion in the evening. Per usual, our awesome band was on point in both services. Didn't get to attend one of our Christmas Eve services? No problem. Enjoy the video!
May you feel blessed this Christmas, and if you're hurting, we pray you will consider coming for a visit to Button UMC to hear more about Jesus. He is the light, our hope for peace, and love in action. Merry Christmas to all!
