June 2015: Pastor’s Corner

Retirement! It can be daunting to think about retirement, especially as it approaches rapidly. My time in active ministry only has one month remaining. I am asked every day what I plan to do, and I can assure you that I have no shortage of projects waiting to be accomplished. I will tell you that I will certainly miss every day ministry and especially the people of Button Church. It seems as if every day another milestone passes me by ... Read More »

May 2015: Pastor’s Corner

The subject of change is one that is often the topic of discussion around any church. I think that this can be a very healthy discussion, for if we don’t discuss prospects for the future, we deny its reality. For this discussion to be lively, open, honest, and focused for us, it must center around how this congregation can respond to our mandate to “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Much of our focus here at ... Spring is in the air. While the nights are still somewhat cool, the trees are budding and the daffodils are blooming and the days are longer and warmer. All of that signifies change – the type of change that characterizes the life-cycle. In the early centuries of its existence, the Christian church established a calendar to correspond to the ... Read More »

February 2015: Pastor’s Corner

Change is in the air. Last week, the temperatures were approaching 80 degrees, and this morning it was below 25! As my daughter-in-law says, Texas has two seasons, winter and summer, and they’re often on the same day. Right now, we are experiencing great change at Button Memorial Church. Eldorado Parkway will go from a two-lane Farm to Market road to a six-lane suburban thoroughfare in less than two months. The Hula Hut will also be opening around the time the ... Read More »

January 2015: Pastor’s Corner

Where, oh where, did you go 2014? It seems like only yesterday that you began, and now we’re saying goodbye. But you were a good year, and we accomplished a lot of good work here at Button Church. Nearly 15,000 lunches served through Kids Eat Free, the youth mission trip to the Panhandle with U.M. Army was a success, our outstanding music ministry, the success of our “Moving Forward” campaign, and so ... Read More »

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
